Osteoporotic Fracture

  • Disease characteristics

rate after the fracture is higher in men.Among the fracture types, the mortality rate within one year after the hip joint fracture is known to be 21.5% in men, which is 6% higher than in women.Fractures mainly occur in the spine, wrist, and hip joints. The number of patients is rapidly increasing due to aging, and it is reported that the elderly patients with hip fractures have the high complication rate and a death rate of up to 70%.

    Bone with Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis has no specific symptoms, so it is often not recognized until the fracture occurs.Denosumab and Bisphosphonate drugs are most commonly used to prevent the osteoporotic fractures. These are all types of bone resorption inhibitors and have a mechanism to inhibit bone resorption by interfering with the action of osteoclasts. However, many side effects, such as gastrointestinal disorders and rarely jawbone necrosis, have been reported, so there is a high demand for alternative treatments.Orthopedic surgery is used as the direct treatment after the fracture.

Hip joint replacement/fixation + Cell therapy

Cell therapy agent is also administered during the procedures in which metal pins are inserted and fixed through the neck into the head of the thighbone, or during hip joint replacement surgery. In the case of partial replacement that requires the artificial implant such as the bone cement, cell therapy agent promotes the autologous bone production and bone union.
